Capsule Wardrobe: Part 2

Ok, so I think I have FINALLY finished creating my capsule wardrobe for Fall 2017!  I have to admit, this was probably the hardest one I’ve ever created!  I just couldn’t decide what direction to go in with some of my pieces.  Additionally, I found a few really fun items that just didn’t incorporate well, so I had to make some hard decisions about what to include and what to pass on.

There are so many beautiful colours coming out this season, it was also hard to choose a colour palette to work around. I found myself drawn to lots of florals, pinks, taupes, and denim.  I think I was able to create a cohesive, functional, and stylish capsule for this season, although I still have a couple of items to find – mainly footwear.  There are also a few things I’m still a little on the fence about, such as the inclusion of a navy floral kimono, which will work great in September, but might not be practical for a good chunk of the season.  So, we will see if I end up needing to swap something out in this first week or two.

The other thing that I think made it more difficult this time around than usual, is that I’m still sort of in “summer mode” because I’m on maternity leave.  Normally I would be back at work in the fall, and so my wardrobe would look decidedly more “professional”.  It’s been fun choosing pieces for a more casual season in life, but I had to keep reminding myself that I shouldn’t put really summery pieces into my fall wardrobe (aside from that kimono, lol) … because in a couple of weeks, they probably won’t work anymore.  Although in Saskatchewan, you never know what you’re going to get weather-wise.  😉

I ended up mixing things up a bit in each category of clothing as well, and went with the following, for a total of 40 items:

Bottoms:  7

Dresses/Rompers:  4

Jackets: 4

Tees/Tops:  13

Sweaters/Wraps/Kimonos: 6

Footwear:  6

There are a few pieces in my “maybe” bin, which might be held over for another season – but I’m happy to say, there is also a decent pile of clothes that I’ll be passing along as well! I was able to incorporate a lot of items I already had, and only ended up purchasing a few new things for the season.  Not to mention that my closet and bedroom area are so organized right now!! (We’ll see how long that lasts!)  😉

If you’re interested, check out my instagram account and insta-story for a few up-close peeks at some of the items I choose for this season.

If you’ve decided to create a capsule wardrobe this season I’d love to hear how it’s going and what you’ve decided to incorporate!  Happy styling!
